Baffin Island
After many years of planning, KapiK1 Expedition Baffin is now a reality! Over the next 11 days, you will experience and explore one of the most incredible places on the entire planet…a place that we love very much, and can’t wait for you to fall in love with too.
Our journey will begin with our friends in the island community of Qikiqtarjuaq. We will spend a few days in the community preparing and meeting with old friends and new, and then an overnight on an adjacent smaller island, learning about wildlife and Arctic environment. Within days we will be trekking and camping in the high Arctic, crossing the Akshayuk Pass, unsupported.
Huge granite cliffs, multiple river crossings, awe inspiring views. Just some of the highlights to look forward to!
These are the days, as adventurer seekers, we never forget. That first unzip of the tent and our look at the morning sunrise of one of the most magical places on the planet. Huge granite cliffs, multiple river crossings, awe inspiring views. Just some of the highlights to look forward to! Our trek across Baffin will take approximately 6 days, with an additional day spent in Pangnirtung, our departing community. Friends in Pangnirtung will spend the day with us, educating and sharing with us culture and the arts of the region. This will be an amazing, once in a lifetime experience!
In 2007, shortly after returning from the Sahara, Ray came to the Akshayuk Pass for the first time and instantly was mesmerized with the majesty and overwhelming beauty of this place.
Since then, Ray has crossed Baffin a total of 9 times, and has completed multiple adventures in the region you will visit- including an i2P Youth Expedition in 2009, with i2P co founder Bob Cox!
Both Bob and Ray have made lifelong friendships here in the communities of Qikiqtarjuaq and Pangnirtung, and we are excited for you to meet, to visit, and to learn from our old friends over the course of the next week and a half with you!
